Allan Fels worked as the chairman of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission for almost 10 years. During this period, he became one of the most influential and active regulators in Australia’s history. His impact on the Australian business landscape once saw him described in the Australian Financial Review as the third most powerful man in the country, behind the prime minister and the treasurer.

Fels stepped down from his position with the ACCC in 2003, but continues to have a presence in Australian business and in the national debate in a variety of means. He has worked with the federal government’s Productivity Commission, and headed a review into the Victorian taxi industry. He is also currently the Dean of the Australia and New Zealand School of Government, a not-for-profit company dedicated to creating a world-leading educational institution that teaches strategic management and high-level policy to public sector leaders. Meanwhile, Fels continues to use his public standing to call for improvements in Australia’s mental health services.

As part of Dūcere’s Global Leaders Faculty, Fels draws on a well-respected career as an economist and public servant. During his time he has earned the admiration of a wide cross-section of Australian society. With his experiences, Fels can offer a perspective like few other people on the responsibilities and challenges that come from working as one of Australia’s more prominent public servants.
