Richard Brown is the Vice President of Philanthropy at American Express where he oversees the company’s global giving programs under the Historic Preservation and Leadership giving themes, which includes the National Treasurers program with the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the World Monument Fund’s Watch List, as well as the American Express Leadership Academy. Additionally, Mr. Brown was a key presenter of the first-ever White House Forum on Nonprofit Leadership and plays a lead role with the Presidio Institute in the development of an on-line leadership development portal for nonprofit leaders.
Previously the Corporate Secretary of the Goldman Sachs Foundation, Mr. Brown has also held leadership positions in corporate philanthropy at AT&T Wireless, the Toys R Us Children’s Fund, the Texaco Foundation and Altria.
Mr. Brown currently serves on the Jobs First NYC board and Emerging Practitioners in Philanthropy (EPIP); is the past president and current treasurer of the Foundation of the Westchester Clubmen and a trustee of the Lincoln Fund — a Foundation that supports educational programs in New York City. A graduate of Syracuse University, Mr. Brown has an MS Degree in Organizational Change Management from The Milano Graduate School at the New School University in New York.
