Greg Medcraft is the Chairman of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), the country’s corporate, markets and financial services regulator.
He is also the Chair of the International Organization of Securities Commissions, an association of organisations that regulate the world’s securities and futures markets. In this capacity, he is a member of the Financial Stability Board, which reports to the G20.
Mr Medcraft began his career as a chartered accountant at KPMG in Melbourne. He then joined French bank Société Générale as a financial analyst, becoming the Managing Director and Global Head of Securitisation in New York in 2000.
He co-founded the American Securitization Forum in 2002 and was its Chairman from 2005 until 2007.
On his return to Australia in 2007, he became the CEO of the Australian Securitisation Forum, the peak industry body for the Australian securitisation market. He also took on the role of Mayor of Woollahra Council in Sydney’s east.
He was first appointed to ASIC in 2009, as a Commissioner, and he has held the role of Chairman since May 2011.
