David Copperfield is an illusionist and magician who is known for performing tricks such as walking through the Great Wall of China and making the Statue of Liberty disappear. Copperfield is regarded as being the most commercially successful illusionist in history and an incredibly successful businessman. More than 40 million people have seen Copperfield’s live shows, spending $3b on tickets over the decades that have spanned his career. Copperfield holds 11 Guinness World Records and has starred in a string of television specials over the last three decades that have netted him 23 Emmy awards. He continues to break new grounds, not only as an illusionist but as a performer and entrepreneur.
Copperfield performs more than 500 live shows each year, and is also involved in writing, Broadway performances, hospitality projects, philanthropic ventures and much more. In 1982, Copperfield formed Project Magic, a rehabilitation program that aimed to help people living with a disability regain lost or damaged dexterity skills through learning sleight of hand as a method for physical therapy. The program extended to 30 countries and is in use in more than 1000 hospitals. As a historian of his art, Copperfield founded the International Museum and Library of Conjuring Arts. The museum hosts up to 80,000 items of magic history, including historically significant magic memorabilia, posters, books, props and artifacts.
