Level 1 Elective Subject 1: Managerial Communication
In this subject, you will develop your understanding of the importance of utilising various methods of business communications. You will be introduced to methodologies and techniques in both formal and informal communication and will develop your skills in selecting and developing appropriate communication methodologies for various business scenarios and objectives.
Level 1 Elective Subject 2: Competitive Market Positioning
In this subject, you will build upon basic marketing strategy knowledge to develop a market positioning strategy. You will be introduced to more complex theories and frameworks to support decision-making and the ability for your organisation to position themselves attractively in competitive markets—thereby considering market trends, market composition and competitor strategies and activity.
Level 1 Elective Subject 3: Introduction to Innovation
In this subject, you will be introduced to the fundamentals of innovation, its role within entrepreneurship, as well as the key tools and methodologies used to foster innovation. In addition, you will explore the key differences between innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as the function of innovation within both new and established organisations. Throughout this subject you will develop the ability to inform basic innovation programs and innovation challenges faced by established organisations.

In this subject, you will be introduced to the typical opportunities and challenges that arise from teams of diverse backgrounds. You will learn how these diverse backgrounds can impact working styles and the type of management and leadership style required for maximum productivity outcomes. Throughout this subject you will further develop your management and leadership skills, in order to be able to identify key staff differences that inform the design of effective management procedures and policies, thereby creating positive working environments.

In this subject, you will be introduced to the regulations of employment across all types of staff. You will develop your abilities in designing workforce policies and procedures in line with Australian law, in order to foster safe and enjoyable work environments. In this subject, you will learn what constitutes a project, the various components and stages of a project, as well as the core competencies and approaches of an effective project manager. Taking a broad perspective, this subject introduces you to the similarities of projects between industries, as well as many of the nuances that may be found in particular industries.
Fundamentals of Leadership
In this subject, you will develop their theoretical understanding of leadership in a general business context and how different leadership models apply in varying types of organisations. You will investigate the fundamental differences between management and leadership, as well as how leadership capability is developed in individuals and organisations. You will explore the concepts of organisational culture and how the traits of an individual leader can influence the overall culture of a business. Business Model Analysis
In this subject, you will be gain a foundational understanding of the core concepts of a business model and the importance of each of these in creating unique value and sustainable business success. In addition, you will develop skills in assessing both the current and future risk, as well as the opportunity of a business model, based on strategic market analysis and forward planning.
Corporate Structuring and Business Law
In this subject, you will develop an understanding of the law in relation to business. You will come to understand the various business structuring options and the benefits and drawbacks of each, as well as the processes involved in setting-up the respective structures. Beyond this, you will develop the skills and understanding to interpret basic business laws and learn about the digital economy and the associated new breed of high-growth digital businesses. In addition to exploring the theoretical understanding of the differences between digital and physical organisations and the methods of developing and delivering value to customers, you will develop skills in identifying digital business opportunities and risks for established organisations.
Upon completion of this course, will be able to design business models for digital organisations, as well as adapt more traditional business models to suit the digital economy.
Digital Business and Disruption
Technology has changed the game. Whether it be through the emergence of new online platforms, different ways of providing services due to the advent of mobile applications, or through the transformation of traditional business models, digital business practices have become both desired and necessary. As a manager, marketer, or entrepreneur, it is vital that you understand the benefits and limitations of digital business so that you too can be more effective and innovative. In completing this subject, you will be able to effectively identify key opportunities and strategies to maximise business performance through the use of digital technology.
Managing Money and Finance
In this subject, you will develop your understanding of and skills in the foundations of business accounting. You will also develop the knowledge and skills required to prepare and interpret basic financial reports for organisations of varying maturity, while also exploring the theories that underpin business accounting. In addition, you will develop the capability to identify any financial trends of note, in order to make recommendations to decision makers of financial changes that should be made.

In this subject, you will be introduced to design thinking and why this modern business concept is useful and valuable to all kinds of businesses. In particular, you will engage with the design thinking process—from ideation through to evaluation—as well as exploring the role it plays in current businesses, including the theory and philosophy behind design thinking and the different approaches to design thinking. You will have an opportunity to apply their knowledge and will engage in a design thinking process for an existing organisation, or your own venture.
Big Data
In this subject, you will be introduced to the concepts of Big Data and how it can be applied in modern business contexts. Upon developing your understanding of the various methodologies for collecting and interpreting Big Data, you will work on its application to improve business performance. Upon completion of this subject, you will have a demonstrated capacity to identify and articulate appropriate metrics for measuring business performance across all departments in varying business types. In addition, you will be able to recognise pertinent trends to help improve overall business performance.
Social Enterprise
In this subject, you will be given an introduction to the concepts of social entrepreneurship, how it differs from commercial entrepreneurship from a development and operational perspective, as well as the opportunities available to social entrepreneurs in a range of sectors. In addition, you will learn to define the various social enterprise types as well as how these organisations face the unique challenges of launch, growth and operation. Upon completion of this subject, you will also gain an understanding of the relevance of social enterprise fostered by established for-profit organisations.
Applied Entrepreneurship – Concept Development and Validation
In this subject, you will start applying the skills you have developed as aspiring entrepreneurs. In doing so, you will undertake detailed research and planning as well as practical creative exercises,-to create, explore and validate conceptual venture ideas.
The Global Economy
In this subject, you will come to understand the new paradigm of business that is the global economy and the resulting implications for both established and new organisations. You will develop your understanding of and ability to identify drivers of global change. You will also learn to articulate and interpret the resulting global trends to identify opportunities and challenges from both an operational and strategic perspective.
Management Strategy
In this subject, you will develop your ability to design effective business strategies for organisations of varying types and stages of maturity. Through an introduction to the fundamentals of strategy, the evolution of strategy and a range of strategic methodologies, you will learn how to respond to specific business scenarios and design proactive strategies towards achieving business goals. In addition, you will investigate how organisations can proactively address their future success, through the effective use of trend analysis techniques.
Advanced Digital Marketing
In this subject, you will be introduced to the various digital marketing strategies that have rapidly evolved in recent years. You will develop the skills and understanding required for designing and implementing these strategies for various organisation types and their stages of maturity, utilising a plethora of modern technologies. In addition, you will develop the skills required to effectively assess and improve digital marketing campaigns, as well as learn how digital marketing plays a crucial role in supporting more traditional techniques.
Venture Capital Raising
In this subject, you will develop the skills and understanding necessary to raise capital for new and existing ventures of various types and stages of maturity.
