Module 1: Fundamentals of Management

In this subject, you will come to understand the importance and objectives of organisational management, the various core frameworks required to design and setup organisations, and the tools and techniques effective for the assessment and improvement of organisational performance. Management is a fluid process that aims to bring together the resources available to an organisation in order to achieve a goal or set of goals. This subject will focus on both classic and modern fundamental principles of management.

  • Identify appropriate managerial strategies to maximise value-creation within organisations.
  • Clearly articulate the differences and overlaps between leadership and management and what challenges each of the roles bring.

This subject will introduce you to the fundamental theories and concepts of marketing, its function in business, and approaches to marketing management. You will learn how marketers understand customers and the markets they collectively represent and how to meet consumer needs whilst delivering unique value. You will also examine how marketing has evolved due to digital technologies. Students will also be given the opportunity to articulate marketing goals and develop a marketing plan.

In this subject, you will learn what constitutes a project and the various components and stages of a project. This subject also introduces students to the similarities and differences of projects between industries as well as the nuances that may be found in particular industries. Students will also learn the core competencies and approaches of an effective project manager.

  • Understand the various stages of a project and its components.

In this subject, students will be introduced to leadership theories and perspectives, and begin to explore these different approaches and what they mean for business performance. In particular, Students will learn about traditional and emergent leadership styles, impacts on organisational culture, associated power relations, global leadership factors and issues regarding the development of leaders.

In addition, students will develop their skills in assessing the existing and potential risks and opportunities of a business model based on strategic market analysis and forward planning.

In this subject, students are given the opportunity  to learn the increasingly important role of corporate social responsibility and how it has evolved over recent years. This examination includes students discussing the opportunities and risks involved in adopting or ignoring corporate social responsibility. In addition, students will explore the various methodologies being introduced to foster corporate social responsibility.
